I've really gotten hooked on Stargate: Atlantis recently. The fanfic is awesome. I've resisted for a while, because I don't like Stargate SG-1 very much, and figured SGA would be more of the same. I was very pleasently suprised to find that wasn't so, and I just adore all the characters on SGA. I'm especially fond of McKay.

So, about ten years too late, I've really gotten hooked on Due South. Ah, well, there are benefits to a long established fandom...tons and tons of really awesome fanfic! I've fallen in love with RayK. Don't get me wrong, RayV is great, he has terrific friend-chemistry with Fraser, but man Fraser/RayK is one of those exclusive, can't see 'em with anyone else, obsessive OTPs for me right now.

I updated my del.icio.us page with some Due South recs. Actually, I've updated the entire page with quite a few recs in a bunch of different fandoms...CSI, Star Trek, Supernatural, mostly. So there you go.

A couple things that might have been overlooked...

First, we all know J.K. Rowling finished Harry Potter, but of even greater importance, somniesperus (Telanu) finished THE TEA SERIES (you need to go through her website to get to it, but it's not hard to find). YAY! I've been reading this fanfic for years, almost as long as I've been reading the books themselves, and I'm so happy it's finished! A little sad, too. VERY satisfying ending. For me, and a lot of people, The Tea Series is the definitive Snape/Harry, and it absolutely remains my favorite.

Switching to SPN now, Kripke reassures fandom. WHEW! I wasn't worried worried, but it's nice to know that the producers haven't lost their minds. And how cool that he's so in touch with his fanbase! :) (Warning: SPN S3 spoilers, so don't click the link if you're keeping yourself pure.)

So it seems like things have calmed down. I've unlocked all my fanfic, and moved what was over at bscslashfic (which is now flocked) over here. All my fanfic can be found in my memories, or by tags.

Also, I now have a del.icio.us rec page, found here. I love that place! It makes rec'ing so much easier! :) 114 recs in 19 fandoms, so far, and I'm adding to it all the time.

Garak/Bashir is one of my favorite pairings, in any fandom, but it's hard to find any good fic for them. For some reason, I just don't like the majority of fanfiction for Star Trek...it always feels a bit off somehow. But I stumbled upon two really great fics by one author, and I thought I'd share.

Letters from the Northern Continent: I don't know how to summarize this without spoiling, but I'll just say it's probably the best G/B I've read. Post-series, "Julian goes to Cardassia" story.

In honor of Lance Bass's coming out, I give you my two favorite NSYNC fanfics. Dont' look at me like that! Torch writes for NSYNC; I couldn't help getting hooked! :)

Buying a Clue and sequel The Hard Way by Lennie are both Lance/Justin, both NC17, and both absolutely adorable. Funny, touching, sexy.

I have just finished one of the most heart-breakingly beautiful fics of all time. Incredible. The fic is Night-blooming Heartsease by Julad, NC17 and Snape/Neville. I cannot rec this enough. Give yourself a little time to read it--it's on the long side--and you won't be disappointed. Even if you're not a big fan of slash/romance in general or Snape/Neville in particular, read it. The plot is fucking amazing, an awesome war fic, and the relationship builds subtly without being at all the focus of the fic.

I don't like Elricest. I don't I don't I don't. It's possible for two boys to be deeply devoted to each other without fucking. Especially if they're brothers. Besides, Roy/Ed is so much more fun.

But...

I have to rec two Ed/Al fics by Kinslayer. The only reason I read them was because I loved Kinslayer's Daisuke/Ken Digimon fics, and even though the pairing itself is usually not my thing, I really enjoyed her fics. If you're interested, they are:

These Fatal Moments of Your Nearness. "The game of unpacking in the guest room, as if he intended to sleep there, was part of Edward's homecoming ritual, a ritual of pretending that he didn't want Alphonse." (NC17)

By Sightless Lightning. "Edward and guilt were old friends. He didn't let it get in his way for long." (NC17. WARNING: Dubious consent that borders on non-con. All kinds of creepy in this fic, but Kinslayer is one of the few authors who can pull it off.)


In other news, my brother finally puked and is now feeling better. Poor kid has never really had a bad headache before and didn't know what to do. :( Man, by the time I was his age I'd been getting regular headaches for years. Lucky for him, though, one Tylenol kicked most of it.

Have you ever read a fanfic so wonderful that it defines a series for you? A fanfic that becomes more real than canon? A fanfic that very nearly keeps you from ever attempting another fic of your own, or even reading more in the particular fandom, because it is so jaw-droppingly wonderful that it eclipses anything that ever was or will be in the future?

It starts out as a wonderful first time fic, turns into a coming out fic, and culminates in a fic about homophobia. Also, there's a kick-ass plot and three great cases. Wow, fanfic for a cop show with actual, like, cop stuff! It's especially funny if you're a big fan of the show--inside jokes pepper all three fics--but even if you're not, it's still a great read with snappy dialog and hot sex. Cannot rec these fics enough.

Yeah, I'm a total addict. I went through all of Sleeps With Coyote's FMA fanfic (and her X-files fic, and her PotC fic) and fell in love over and over again. Her Roy is wonderful. My favorite so far is the "Altered States" series (Albedo, Citrinitas, and Rubedo), a Roy/Ed WIP. Very NC17...the sex is the plot, without it being a PWP. Really good, very creative...guess I have a kink for sex rituals that I didn't know I had.

Another author I'm very into is Harukami. I think my favorite FMA fic of hers so far is Housewarming (co-written with WhiteCat), a NC17 Roy/Ed first time fic. I'm a sucker for first times, especially one as well done as this fic.

Roy/Ed has become one of those really obsessive OTPs for me. In most fandoms, I really don't care what the pairing is as long as the fic is good, but so far, FMA is about the Roy/Ed, and I just can't read them with anyone else. Totally pathetic. Last time I felt this way was over Mulder/Scully when I was 13. Alas. I'm regressing. Probably as I watch more of the show and branch out in the fandom, I'll get comfortable with not Roy/Ed fics...but not right now. Luckily, this fandom is very obliging. :)

Oh, for the childfree stuff...well, I left the childfree community. The idea behind it is good, and I identify with the childfree philosophy (don't want to have kids by choice), but the community is just...mean. And it takes over my entire flist with posts that are 99% stupid, selfish, or just gross. Occasionally there's an interesting discussion or link, but it's not worth the irritation I have to wade through to get to it. I guess I'm getting tired of internet bitching...why I probably will be taking fanficrants off my flist soon, too.

It should be against the law to get addicted to a new series when you're broke. *sob* Fullmetal Alchemist is eating my soul right now. I've only seen eps 1-8 and random shows on Cartoon Network, but I was up until 4 spoiling myself like a crazy person. Well, and reading fanfiction. :)

I'm late to the FMA, which is nice because a fandom this old (OMG, two years) has a lot of established fanfiction. I'm in love with Sleeps With Coyote's fanfic...her Roy/Ed (absolutely my FMA OTP) is incredible.

While looking over the fanfic saved on my hard drive, I quickly realized that I have a lot of fic saved that, if looking at it from my normal way of critiquing fanfic, really sucks. I mean, some of my favorite fics are desperately out of character, badly written, horribly cliche, etc.

But I still love them.

Yes, I should be working on my NaNoWriMo story, but I'm procrastinating. I cleaned up the fanfiction section in my memories to make it easier to navigate, and tagged most of my entries. Ah, the lengths one will go to in order to keep from actually doing something productive.

I have just finished the best Dark Is Rising fanfiction. And it was gen. It was gen and I liked it. For the curious, the fic, "Walking Shadow" by Eildon Rhymer, is here. Yes, it's on ff.net, but if you like the Dark is Rising sequence, you should totally read it. Very beautiful, great plot, and true to the characters. At first I was hoping for some Will/Bran, but it was better without the slashy goodness of my first OTP, much as I'm loathe to admit it.

So I've discovered I like Lucius/Harry, a pairing that a month ago was firmly in the "ick" category. Snarry has ruined me forever. I've decided not to analyze my enjoyment of cross-generation pairings, but it's something to bring up with the therapist if I run out of things to talk about. I've spent the last week or so hunting good LM/HP fic, and...it's not really out there. I've found a couple I like (especially the Alluette series by Nimori ).

The rant: Why do people insist on making Lucius a nice guy? And I don't even mean nice in the "he joined Dumbeldore" sense because I'm sure there are instances where that would happen. I'm thinking more the "oh look he's cuddling Harry and whispering sweet nothings" type nice, and when it happens without any sort of buildup or reasoning beyond great sex it ruins what might have otherwise been a good story.

I find this a lot in Snarry writing as well (H/D of course is the biggest perp. in the unwarranted sap department). The story is going along just fine, pretty in character, until all of a sudden Snape starts holding Harry and patting his hair and telling him of his eternal longing and how he always wished this day would come and he just wants to *protect* Harry...and I'm asking "Where the hell did that come from?"

Look, if you want to write sap, there are plenty of pairings for it. Harry/Ginny, for example. Want slash? Ron/Harry. Cross-gen? Harry/Remus. Tonks/Ginny. Slash the good guys if you want good-guy slash, or at least give a decent explanation for why Snape is calling Harry "honey".

Hmmm. Another HP/LM that I just read and found absolutely delicious is A World Not So Black Nor White by Amanuensis Gah. I like this because there's a progression to the romance, and Lucius is still Lucius. Plus, her command of language is amazing.
