(Although I really like Jack/Daniel fanfic, especially when they're on Atlantis. Happily, I've watched enough SG-1--like homework--to understand the fanfic.)
In wisdom teeth news, mouth is killing me. Somehow, it hurts worse than yesterday. I kind of want to kill myself (although that's the vicodin talking, I know, vicodin makes me sooooo depressed). I am a huge baby. Though my dad did save my teeth for me, which is really cool! I haven't decided what to do with them yet.

PS: For those of you who pray, if you could pray for Shamika, a woman in our church, I would really appreciate it. She's been in the hospital for about a week with pneumonia. It's resistant to antibiotics and she isn't getting any better. She's a single mom with an adorable three-year-old, and it's a very hard, scary situation. I told her I've got some great pray-ers on my flist, and I'd put the request out there. Thanks!
ETA: Shamika just lost her job. Her boss said: "Everyone has a sad story." WTF??? Shamika is VERY upset, understandably. Just spent a couple hours w/ her in the hospital, and she is extremly depressed. :(

3rd thought: Why is Harry Potter fandom so fucked up?
4th thought: Fandom_Wank is really not funny anymore. Seriously, read through the whole thing. Notice how many time f_w comes up, shit-stirring and basically making what could have been a small, private matter a huge wanky thing.
5th thought: Fandom has basically regressed to the seventh grade. Is anyone else strongly reminded of the girl's bathroom in Jr. High? I can practically smell the cheap hair product and fruity body sprays.
Edit: I mentioned this whole thing to my mom, condensed of course because she's not active in fandom. She stared at me for a couple minutes, then said, slowly, "See honey, this is why gossip is bad." She wanted to use this a sermon illustration, but realized it couldn't possibly be compressed. :)

I'm rambling, I know.
Maybe the reason we don't have the big fights anymore is because the fans have grown up. Or, maybe it's just because K.A. dashed all of our hopes in the last books. We're all united in hatred against 54. :)
Just kinda boring, is all I'm saying.

10) Lesbians. It doesn't matter if it's two guys, or a guy and a girl, they all end up sounding like lesbians.
9) Teenagers. I've written maybe two fics with adults, and considering that they were kids in the source material, it hardly counts.
8) Declarations of undying love. It's something I'm trying to work on, but a good portion of my fics still end with some form of "I love you."
7) Fumbling virgins. I have soft spot for first time fics.
6) Unconventional/non-canon pairings. When I first started out, I was a stickler for canon pairings, (Jake/Cassie and Mulder/Scully, especially), but I haven't written a strictly conventional relationship in years.
5) Pairings! Out of all my fics, I have exactly one gen fic. I guess when I write, I'm usually inspiried by relationship ideas, not general plot ideas.
4) Humor/general light-heartedness. I have a couple dark fics, but almost all of my fics end on a high note, and even more are generally light all the way through.
3) Weird details. Especially in my sex fics, I like the character I'm writing to notice things, sensory details especially.
2) First person/limited third person. I write best through one person's eyes. I try to keep all of the description from the main character's POV.
1) It's a children's series! Digimon, Animorphs, Everworld, Harry Potter, Baby-Sitter's Club...yeah, all kid's stuff. And yet, lots of smut.

Watched Revolutionary Girl Utena last night. A couple people from my floor would wander in, watch for a few minutes, then shake their head and leave. Hee. Trying to explain it is impossible. Hell, I've watched the entire series (and the movie) several times over, and I still don't understand. It's one of the reasons I won't write fanfiction for it, even though it's arguably my favorite anime. It's hard to establish canon in a show like that--what's real, what's metaphor, what's a dream, what's character perception--and the end left me with more questions than answers. But it's visually stunning, fun to watch, and canon lesbians, so yay!. Of course, whenever I hear people say, "Our relationship is just like Utena and Anthy!" I always want to cringe and back away quickly. Kinda like the folks who compare their relationship to Romeo and Juliet, or, God forbid, Sid and Nancy.
Oh, and I can not understand all the Akio apologists. I'm sorry, even though he didn't hold Anthy or Utena down while they screamed, he's still a rapist. Utena is in 8th grade when she sleeps with him, and she is obviously uncomfortable during the whole encounter. He's in his late 20s to early 30s (I haven't been able to find an agreed upon age). And his relationship with Anthy is too fucked up for words. He's her older brother, he has a serious hold on her, he's obviously been sleeping with her for a long time--and, again, she's in middle school. The incest doesn't freak me out as much as the power differential. I can understand liking him in spite, or even because, of his evilness, but to excuse it or try to make him out to be a nice guy is annoying. And I especially get irritated with the Akio fangirls who say, "Oh, I can't feel bad for Anthy, she gets to sleep with him all the time!" Yeah. Right. As long as your rapist is attractive...
Now I should really stop blabbering on about cartoons and do my homework.

It starts out as a wonderful first time fic, turns into a coming out fic, and culminates in a fic about homophobia. Also, there's a kick-ass plot and three great cases. Wow, fanfic for a cop show with actual, like, cop stuff! It's especially funny if you're a big fan of the show--inside jokes pepper all three fics--but even if you're not, it's still a great read with snappy dialog and hot sex. Cannot rec these fics enough.
Enjoy!

Another author I'm very into is Harukami. I think my favorite FMA fic of hers so far is Housewarming (co-written with WhiteCat), a NC17 Roy/Ed first time fic. I'm a sucker for first times, especially one as well done as this fic.
Roy/Ed has become one of those really obsessive OTPs for me. In most fandoms, I really don't care what the pairing is as long as the fic is good, but so far, FMA is about the Roy/Ed, and I just can't read them with anyone else. Totally pathetic. Last time I felt this way was over Mulder/Scully when I was 13. Alas. I'm regressing. Probably as I watch more of the show and branch out in the fandom, I'll get comfortable with not Roy/Ed fics...but not right now. Luckily, this fandom is very obliging. :)

Yes, I should be working on my NaNoWriMo story, but I'm procrastinating. I cleaned up the fanfiction section in my memories to make it easier to navigate, and tagged most of my entries. Ah, the lengths one will go to in order to keep from actually doing something productive.

( Recollections of the parts of the movie I did see. )
I do want to see the movie again. After all, I missed three big parts (most of the second task, first half of the ball, and the last five minutes or so). ::shrug:: That's what I get for volunteering to take my little brother and a friend...I should know that before long, I'll end up with a load of kids. Wish I could be more of a bitch and say no.
I'm going to wait a month or so to see it again, and then I'll go really late at night with someone who won't mind chatter during the movie. Jesse knows what I'm talking about. :) Nothing like watching the movie with a slashy commentary running through.
